CD Site
A CD site is the same as a Web site except it runs from a CD-ROM drive and is independent
of the Internet. ImagiNET developments CD sites for companies that are interested in
producing multimedia presentations, such as business promotions, product marketing,
interactive training, etc. A
CD-ROM is a high-density (650 megabytes) storage medium that is excellent for graphically
intensive interactive programs. CD-ROM is currently one of the best formats for
distributing and playing back multimedia applications. CD-ROM drives can retrieve
information fast enough to play large media files (like digital video) directly from the
CD.
Key features to using CD-ROMs:
 |
CD-ROMs are non-erasable and will not
crash like a hard drive. |
 |
CD-ROMs are inexpensive to duplicate in
comparison to printed brochures. |
 |
A CD-ROMs read only property ensures that
distributed copies of information cannot be erased or modified. |
 |
A CD-ROM is compact and durable, perfect
for mailing to prospective clients. |
 |
Because of the large storage capacity of
CD-ROMS, they can be embedded with high quality digital videos, sounds, images, etc. |
Key features to using CD sites:
 |
No extra software or hardware is
necessary. All CD sites are compatible with standard Internet browsers and will run on all
CD-ROM drives. |
 |
All sites are designed to take advantage
of Internet technology and can be updated with Microsoft FrontPage 98. This allows a
business to make changes easily in house with support by ImagiNET. |
CD site example -
Vanguard Realty, Inc., Orange Park, Florida
With their old system, Vanguard would take
pictures of their houses and send the pictures and all of the additional information to an
out of city company for programming. This process would normally take 2-3 weeks before
Vanguard would get a finished product. This delay caused some information to be out of
date and the location difference caused errors and unreliability. Agents were embarrassed
by this program and were reluctant to use it. Also this system was only installed on
computers located in the offices.
